Avia Propeller, s.r.o. is a Czech company engaged in the design, manufacture and maintenance of aircraft all-metal propellers and propeller control systems. The company is based in Prague-Letňany and continues the aviation tradition of Avia, founded in 1919. The propellers from Avia Propeller are installed on aicraft with piston and turboprop engines and are popular for their performance and durability, especially with operators operating in demanding operating conditions around the world. Avia Propeller also manufactures a range of duralumin propeller blades for historic aircraft, such as the P-51 Mustang WWII fighter aircraft. Last but not least, the company produces over 1,200 propeller hydraulic speed controllers per year. This device controls the rotation of the propeller blades so that the propeller maintains a constant speed independent of engine power and thus operates in optimum mode.
The AV-725 is a constant speed hydraulic propeller for aircraft operation in all weather conditions including icing. To ensure constant speed, the propeller blades are rotated about their axis. At the same time, this propeller has the capability to rotate the blades to negative angles to induce reverse thrust or, in the event of engine shutdown, to reposition the blades to the flag position where they impose the least resistance.
The propeller was certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2011 and is currently being validated in many other countries, both within and outside the EU. It can be found on the Czech L 410 aircraft, which is used in demanding operating conditions in various parts of the world.
The propeller hub and propeller blades are made of high-strength aluminium alloy forgings. A special thread on the root of the propeller blades allows easy transport of the propeller in two crates and the possibility of replacing the propeller blades on the aircraft without removing the entire propeller from the engine/aircraft. The propeller was completely designed and is manufactured by Avia Propeller, s.r.o.
